R.I.P. Robert Vaughn

A fine actor with a distinguished career, Robert Vaughn will best be remembered as cool super-spy Napoleon Solo from sixties mega-hit The Man From U. N. C. L. E. .  America's answer to the espionage craze started by Ian Fleming (who actually named Vaughn's character),  The Man From U. N. C. L. E. ran for four years on NBC & also benefitted from a massively successful merchandising campaign.  If you have never seen the show, I highly recommend it.  The first season is in black & white, is serious in tone, & is shot in the style of movies of the day, making it stand out from most sixties television.  The following seasons are in color and shift to a more tongue in cheek approach, but the program is still enjoyable.  I met Robert Vaughn twice: once briefly in New York City about ten years ago and earlier at a mall in Connecticut in the late eighties.  But, that's a story for another time.  Robert Vaughn was a great actor who had the bulk of his career recorded, so future generations can enjoy and respond to his work.
